Public hospitals not meeting faster cancer treatment targets

Only 1 out of 20 District Health Boards (DHBs) met the target to provide faster cancer treatment in the first quarter of this financial year, with 86.3% of Waitemata DHB patients receiving their first cancer treatment (or other management) within 62 days of being referred with a high suspicion of cancer and a need to be seen within two weeks. Alternatively many private patients wait on average only 7-14 days for similar treatment – a reassuring message for our clients with Health insurance.
